Nissan Skyline R32, R33 and R34 aero guide: GT-R vs GT-T body fitment

Short answer: Skyline aero parts are made for one generation and one body, and the GT-R body is not the same as the GTS-t or GT-T body. On the R32, R33 and R34, the GT-R has its own front bumper and wider front wings, so a part made for a GT-R bumper will not simply bolt to a non-GT-R car. This guide covers the R32, R33 and R34, what changes between the bodies, and which Nissan Skyline body kit and aero parts we make for each.
A note on names: "Z-Tune style", "Nismo style", "Top Secret style" and "Msport style" describe the design a part follows. Our parts are made in our own moulds in our UK and EU workshops. We are not affiliated with Nismo, Top Secret or any other original maker, and our parts are not genuine parts from them.
The three generations at a glance
| R32 | R33 | R34 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| GT-R chassis code | BNR32 | BCNR33 | BNR34 |
| GT-R built | 1989 to 1994 | 1995 to 1998 | 1999 to 2002 |
| Common turbo non-GT-R | HCR32 GTS-t | ECR33 GTS25t | ER34 25GT Turbo (GT-T) |
| Factory width, GT-R | 1,755 mm | 1,780 mm | 1,785 mm |
| Factory width, turbo coupe | 1,695 mm | 1,720 mm | 1,725 mm |
| Skyline body styles | Coupe and sedan (GT-R: coupe only) | Coupe and sedan (GT-R: coupe, plus 416 Autech four-doors) | Coupe and sedan (GT-R: coupe only) |
The pattern is the same on all three: the GT-R is about 60 mm wider than the turbo coupe it is based on. That width is in the front wings and the rear arches, and it is the reason most Skyline fitment questions start with "is it a GT-R?".
GT-R or GTS-t and GT-T: why it decides fitment
Three areas change between a GT-R and a non-GT-R Skyline:
- Front wings. The GT-R wings are wider. A GT-R front bumper is shaped to meet them, so on a narrow-body car its corners stand proud of the wings. That is why our R34 Z-Tune style bumper needs either GT-R wings or our wide Z-Tune style wings.
- Bumper and bonnet. The GT-R bumper and bonnet are designed as a pair. Owners who have converted R34 GT-Ts report that a GT-R bonnet on a GT-T bumper leaves a gap at the front edge, and that the hinges and catch differ too. Plan the bumper and the bonnet together.
- Rear arches. The GT-R rear quarters are flared. On a GTS-t or GT-T, the usual way to match them is a GT-R style rear fender or quarter panel.
Many Skylines in the UK and Europe are no longer standard. A GT-T may already wear GT-R wings, and a GT-R may have had an aftermarket bumper for years. What matters for fitment is what is on the car today, not the badge. When you ask us about a part, give us the chassis code from the plate and a photo of the front corner, where the bumper meets the wing.
Coupe or sedan: what crosses over
All three generations were sold as a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan. The GT-R was a coupe only, with one exception: the R33 GT-R Autech 40th Anniversary of 1998, a four-door GT-R of which 416 were built.
On the R34, owners report that the sedan and the coupe share the front bumper, the bonnet and the front wings, so front parts cross over. The side skirts, rear bumper and boot lid are different, so side and rear parts do not. Our R34 GT-R style side skirts are for the two-door only.
The grey car above is an R34 sedan with a GT-R style front bumper, side skirts and a side diverter behind the front wheel. It shows that the front end of a four-door can take the same look as a coupe. Our side skirts are made for the two-door, so for the sides and the rear of a sedan, ask us before you order.
R32 Skyline aero parts
The R32 GT-R has aluminium front wings and bonnet, where the GTS-t has steel ones. Anything you fix to the GT-R front panels should go on with rivnuts or bonded mounts, not self-tapping screws straight into thin aluminium.
Our R32 range is small and sits low on the car:
- R32 Top Secret style diffuser: the main diffuser comes with four fixing brackets. Side extensions and centre fins are optional extras on the product page.
- R32 sidesteps: a left and right pair, 195 cm long and 15 cm wide. They are thin and flexible, so they follow most side skirts. Ask us if you need another length.
This customer R32 GT-R shows the idea: a black diffuser under the factory rear bumper and black extensions under the side skirts, with the rest of the car left standard. Universal parts that are listed for the R32, such as splitter end plates and fender flares, are in the R32 category.
R33 Skyline: series changes and aero parts
The R33 Skyline arrived in 1993 and the GT-R followed in January 1995. In 1996 the non-GT-R cars were facelifted, a change owners call Series 2. On the GTS models the headlights became tapered, the front edge of the bonnet was reshaped and the front bumper was revised to meet the new lights.
That matters for front parts. Owners report that a Series 2 GTS bumper is not a straight swap onto a Series 1 car: the mounting reinforcement differs, and the bumper sits a few millimetres back from the older headlights. The GT-R front end changed far less, although owners mention a slightly deeper lower lip on late Series 3 GT-Rs. So when you order a front part for an R33, tell us the series and whether it is a GT-R or a GTS body.
- R33 Msport style front bumper: a full replacement bumper listed for R33s from 1993 to 1998. Because the front end changed in 1996, we confirm the fit against your series before you order.
- R33 front splitter, 176 cm: it fixes to the lower lip of the bumper with 4 mm rivets or M6 bolts, about every 100 mm. Use one pair of support rods if it sticks out 50 to 75 mm, and two or three pairs at 75 to 100 mm. We do not recommend more than 100 mm. Our front splitter guide explains where the rods go.
- R33 GT-R style rear fenders: a pair of full quarters that add 50 mm each side, listed for 1995 to 1998 cars. They give a GTS body a GT-R style rear arch, with room for wider tyres.
The burgundy R33 above is part way through a rear arch job: the rear quarter is still raw white fibreglass, with the rivets visible along its top edge, and the boot lid and lower rear corner are still black. That is the right order. Fit, trim and adjust first, and only then send the car to paint. The rest of our R33 parts, including sidesteps, side diverters, a Top Secret style diffuser and a radiator cooling panel, are in the R33 category.
R34 Skyline aero parts and Z-Tune style conversions
The R34 is the Skyline we make the most parts for. The non-GT-R R34 had its own facelift in August 2000 with a new front bumper, so a GT-T front part also depends on the year. The GT-R parts below are designed around the BNR34 body.
Front
- R34 Z-Tune style front bumper: made for the GT-R. It needs the wider GT-R front wings or our Z-Tune style wings to fit.
- R34 Z-Tune style front wings: wide front wings that fit all R34 models. On a GT-T they are the first step towards a GT-R front end.
- R34 GT-R Z-Tune lip and undertray: fits GT-R and Z-Tune style bumpers, not the GT-T bumper. You can order the full undertray or the lip only.
- R34 GT-R bonnet: made for the 1999 to 2002 GT-R. The competition version is an outer skin with no inner frame, so it needs aftermarket bonnet fixings, such as bonnet pins.
The R34 radiator cooling panel in the same range fits GT-R front ends and GT-Ts that have been converted to one.
The silver GT-R above keeps its factory bumper and adds a black lip underneath. It is the simplest front upgrade on a BNR34, and in carbon it can be left unpainted.
The blue R34 goes much further: wide front wings, a bonnet and a rear arch all left in bare carbon fibre against the blue paint. Wide arches like these change the wheel and tyre package you can run, so plan offsets with the bodywork, not after it.
Sides
The GT-R style side skirts linked above are one piece, with the Z-Tune style extension moulded in, and they fit the two-door only. If you want to keep your factory skirts, the R34 category also has Nismo style sidesteps that fit under the GT-R skirt, and side diverters that fit any skirt.
Rear
- R34 GT-R style rear fenders: for the coupe. They add about 25 mm each side, so 50 mm across the car, and the GT-R style fuel cap is included.
- R34 Top Secret Shine style diffuser: the main part comes with four fixing brackets. Side extensions and centre fins are optional.
A GT-R style rear bumper, Z-Tune style rear spats and GT-R style rear light covers complete the rear. You will find them all in the R34 category.
GT-T to GT-R look: the order we suggest
- Front wings first. Fit GT-R or Z-Tune style wide wings, because every other front part is shaped to meet them.
- Bumper and bonnet together. Test fit both at the same time and check the gap along the front edge of the bonnet.
- Side skirts. They have to line up with the new wing at the front and the rear arch at the back.
- Rear fenders and bumper last. Set the rear arch width to match the front, then fit the bumper and spats.
- Wheels and alignment. Measure for wheels once the arches are on, before you buy.
Fitting notes for all three generations
- Check the car first. The youngest R34 is now well over twenty years old. Look for rust in the arches and sills, and for old accident repairs that have moved panel gaps. Fibreglass bonded over rot will not last.
- Wide rear quarters are a body shop job. The R33 quarters add 50 mm a side and the R34 fenders about 25 mm a side. Offer them up, mark the line, then rivet or bond along the top edge, as on the burgundy R33 above. The inner arch lip may need rolling or trimming for the wider tyres the arches are meant for.
- Front parts follow the wings. On any generation, decide on the wings before you buy a bumper, lip or undertray. A GT-R front part will not sit right against non-GT-R wings.
- Test fit before you drill or paint. Check our returns page before you order.
Depending on the part, finishes include carbon fibre, carbon fibre for paint spraying, coloured carbon or carbon-Kevlar, and black or white fibreglass. We do not paint parts, and where a part has a left and a right side, the price is for the pair. Our guide to fibreglass vs carbon fibre body kits helps you choose. We ship to the UK, the EU, the US and worldwide; US import rules for the cars themselves are a separate subject.

FAQ
Do GT-R body parts fit a GTS-t or GT-T Skyline?
Not directly at the front. A GT-R front bumper is shaped for the wider GT-R front wings, so a GTS-t or GT-T needs GT-R wings or wide Z-Tune style wings first. Underside parts such as diffusers and sidesteps are listed for the generation, not the trim. Send us your chassis code and we will confirm.
How much wider is a Skyline GT-R than a GTS-t or GT-T?
About 60 mm on every generation. Factory widths are 1,755 mm against 1,695 mm on the R32, 1,780 mm against 1,720 mm on the R33, and 1,785 mm against 1,725 mm on the R34 coupe.
Do R34 sedan and coupe body parts interchange?
Owners report that the front bumper, bonnet and front wings are shared. The side skirts, rear bumper and boot lid are different. Our R34 GT-R style side skirts fit the two-door only.
Are R33 Series 1 and Series 2 front bumpers the same?
Not on the non-GT-R cars. On the GTS models the 1996 facelift changed the headlights, the front edge of the bonnet and the front bumper, and owners report the bumpers are not a direct swap. The GT-R front end changed far less. Tell us your car's series and whether it is a GT-R or a GTS when you order a front part.
What do I need to fit a Z-Tune style front bumper to an R34 GT-T?
Wider front wings first. Our Z-Tune style bumper is made for the GT-R and needs GT-R wings or our Z-Tune style wide wings. Owners also report that the GT-R bonnet is shaped to match the GT-R bumper, so plan the bonnet at the same time.
